Spring Activities for Seniors

If you’re anything like most people, you’re probably at least a little relieved to see winter end. Now that it’s getting nicer outside, it’s time to get active! Make the most of the new season with these fun spring activities for seniors.

Spring Activities for Seniors

Spring is finally here, which means more sun, warmer temperatures, and blooming flowers and trees everywhere you look. It’s time to get outside and enjoy the nice weather. If you’re looking for a new hobby, try one of these spring activities for seniors.

Geocaching

Do you want to spice up your daily walk? How about turning it into a treasure hunt? Believe it or not, there’s an entire hobby built around treasure hunting, and it’s called geocaching. All you have to do is download an app, put on some comfortable walking shoes, and head outdoors. You can use your geocaching app to locate all kinds of treasures and trinkets that other geocachers have hidden outdoors and even hide some things for others to discover. It’s fun and free, and you never know what you’ll find.

Birding

One of the best parts of spring is that many of our most beautiful birds return from their southern migrations. You can welcome them by putting up a windowsill birdfeeder, allowing you to birdwatch from the comfort of your home. If you want to spend more time outdoors, you can grab some binoculars and a birding guide and head to your local park.

Farmer’s Markets

Another great thing about spring is that many of our favorite fruits, vegetables, and flowers are finally back in season. You can get produce and greenery straight from the farmers themselves by visiting a farmer’s market. Not only do they have great things to buy, but they also frequently have free entertainment and samples to enjoy. Go early to beat the crowd and get the best of that day’s offerings!

Grow Something

Of course, you don’t have to go to a farmer’s market to get fresh greenery if you know how to grow it at home. Gardening can be a gratifying hobby for a senior who has some outdoor space to work with. There are many ways to adapt a garden to make it accessible for seniors at every ability level. You can still cultivate your green thumb with an indoor terrarium or herb garden if you don’t have outdoor space.

Plan a Picnic

Planning a spring picnic can be an excellent way to reconnect with friends and family you may have seen less often over the winter months. Keep an eye on the weather, and pick a good weekend for a potluck or another outdoor feast. You can bring along some outdoor games or sit in a camping chair and enjoy the nice weather and conversation. Picnics are also a great way to celebrate holidays or other special events that happen in spring, like school graduations. Be sure to pack some bug spray!
