Style Tips for Seniors

Fashion can bring you confidence, improve the impression you make on others, and allow you to express your creativity. Although clothing has a very practical and necessary purpose, it also brings joy to so many people. And if you look back on your life, you can probably think of several garments that have meant something special to you—your wedding dress, the sweaters your mother knit you, the first suit you bought as a young man . . . So no matter what your age or personal style, don’t be afraid to embrace fashion as a senior. To help you get started, we’ve compiled a list of style tips for seniors below.

Style Tips for Seniors

Embrace accessories. Accessories are a great way to make your outfit pop. Choose neutral accessories to wear with any outfit, or purchase bright and eye-catching accessories to add interest to a monochrome ensemble. Even a simple white t-shirt or a black dress can be livened up with a colorful scarf, a bold necklace, or patterned purse.

Be vibrant. Never assume that only the young can wear bright colors and vibrant prints. As we age, our hair turns gray and then white, and our skin might lose its radiance and color. To add back some of what’s been lost, choose rich and vibrant colors for your wardrobe, looking for pieces that flatter your coloring.

Accumulate classics. Classics never go out of style. For example, you can’t go wrong with an A-line skirt, straight leg jeans, a khaki trench coat, or a tailored suit. Try pairing your classic garments with clothes that show more personality for a foolproof combination.

Show your shape. Don’t be afraid to show your shape. Identify your best features and accentuate them. For example, a belt can highlight your small waist, an attractive neckline will draw attention to your face, and a structured jacket works well on everybody.

Be comfortable. It is entirely possible to find fashionable clothes that are still comfortable. Try jeans with added stretch, soft sweaters, cotton shirts, and flowing dresses. And once you find a comfortable garment that you love, consider buying it in multiple colors so that you’ll always have something to wear!

Go crazy! When you reach your senior years, there is no need to worry about the gossip at school. Be fearless and wear what you like most. Mix prints! Don a fuchsia coat! Layer eight bracelets! Top it off with a red beret! By their sunset years, most people have learned not to care what other people think. Embrace that idea, and be yourself.

We urge you to have fun with fashion and showcase your personality and creativity through the clothes you wear. Follow the tips above if you like, or ignore them completely! The most important thing is that you love what you wear.

Are you looking for an assisted living facility in Tennessee? If so, be sure to check out Hearthside Senior Living Place. We have two locations—one in Collierville and one soon to open in Bartlett— and we would be happy to schedule a tour for you so that you can explore your preferred facility, meet some of the residents, and ask any questions you might have. We look forward to meeting you!
