Collierville Senior Adult Activities

What are you up to this weekend? Have any big plans? As we get older, it’s ever more important to keep in touch with our friends and enjoy social activities. Although this is easy to accomplish if you live in an assisted living facility that hosts events and schedules group gatherings, we still recommend venturing out into your community to see what it has to offer. For example, the Parks and Recreation department of Collierville, Tennessee, puts on a number of programs for seniors in the community. To discover the details of these Collierville senior adult activities, please scroll down.

Collierville Senior Adult Activities

The Senior Exercise Program

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:15am to 10:00am, instructor Kyra Barger leads the group in a daily exercise routine at the Collierville Community Center Gymnasium. The class includes a variety of physical activities including stretching, toning, hand weights, and balance exercises. This group typically arrives early to warm-up before class, and sometimes participants will walk after class as well. To participate, pick up an exercise punch card ($10 for 12 visits) from the Parks Administration Office.

Monthly Bingo

Who doesn’t enjoy an exciting round of bingo? On the third Tuesday of each month from 11:30am to 1:30pm, the Collierville Community Center hosts a game of bingo. The event costs $5 and includes lunch, two cards for playing bingo, and any prizes won during the game. Please register one week prior to the event by contacting the Parks Administration Office. To view the 2015 Bingo Schedule, please click here.

Additionally, every fourth Tuesday of the month (from January until June 2015), a Brown Bag Bingo event is held from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Again, you are asked to sign up at least one week prior to the event. You are also asked to bring your own lunch as well as a $1 prize for the prize box. Participants receive two bingo cards.

Senior Lunch ‘n Learn Series

To knock out two birds with one stone, get your daily fix of knowledge as you eat your lunch at the Senior Lunch ‘n Learn Series. Through a partnership with the Morton Museum, artists, authors, and historians are invited to the museum to speak. This event occurs on the second and fourth Thursday of every month from 11:00am to 1:00pm, and it is free for all seniors.

AARP Driving Class

This is a one-day course occurring on May 14, 2015 from 8:30am-4:30pm at 419 Johnson Park Drive. You are asked to register with the instructor, Robert Allen, prior to the event by calling 854-0708, and you will pay the course fee to AARP through the instructor on the day of the event. Finally, please remember to bring a lunch with you. Coffee and light snacks will be available as well.
