The largest urban park in the United States, Shelby Farms has something for everyone: horseback riding, bike trails, playgrounds, fishing, space to fly kites, and more. On a nice day, you can’t beat Shelby Farms Park.

The exhibits and displays offer a moving and educational experience, telling the story of America’s civil rights history. The museum is very well organized and informative as well, stretching from the transatlantic slave trade to modern events.
What kid doesn’t enjoy a trip to the zoo? More than 3,500 animals call the Memphis Zoo home, from penguins and pelicans to komodo dragons and a baby orangutan (born on March 19, 2016). To view the entire property, plan to spend three to five hours at the park, and if you have trouble getting around, consider taking a guided tram tour for a small fee. The zoo also hosts events like Zoo Boo (for Halloween) and Zoo Lights (for Christmas).
